Polyester fiber (commonly known as "polyester") is widely used in the field of packaging materials due to its high strength, tear resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, and good dimensional stability, covering multiple scenarios from basic packaging to functional packaging. The following are its main application directions and characteristics:
1、 Flexible packaging materials
1. Woven bags/container bags
Application scenario: Transportation and storage packaging of bulk goods such as grain, fertilizers, cement, plastic particles, etc.
Features: The bag formed by weaving polyester fibers has high strength (3-5 times the tensile strength of polyethylene), wear resistance, high and low temperature resistance (-40 ℃ to 120 ℃), and better moisture resistance than cotton and linen woven bags. It can be reused multiple times. For example, the base fabric of ton container bags (FIBC) is often woven with polyester filament, which, when combined with coating technology, can further enhance the sealing performance.
2. Packaging rope/strapping
Application scenarios: bundling of cardboard boxes and wooden crates, securing goods, agricultural packaging (such as bundling vegetables and fruits).
Features: The rope made of polyester fiber has high breaking strength (single fiber strength can reach 5-8cN/dtex), moderate elasticity, is not easy to loosen, and is resistant to UV aging (can be used for long-term outdoor tying after adding antioxidants), replacing traditional hemp rope and nylon rope, with higher cost-effectiveness.
3. Flexible container bag lining/diaphragm
Application scenario: Packaging of powdered or liquid goods (such as chemical raw materials and food additives) that require moisture and leakage prevention.
Features: The non-woven fabric (non-woven fabric) made of polyester short fibers, when combined with polyethylene film, combines the strength of polyester and the sealing properties of the film, with better puncture resistance than pure plastic film, reducing the risk of packaging damage.
2、 Packaging auxiliary materials
1. Buffer packaging materials
Application scenarios: shock resistant packaging for electronic products, precision instruments, and fragile items (such as cushioning pads, filling cotton).
Features: Non woven fabrics made from polyester fibers through processes such as needle punching and heat bonding (such as "polyester cotton") have a lightweight texture and good rebound performance. The buffering effect can be controlled by adjusting the fiber density, and they are resistant to mold and odorless, suitable for cushioning packaging of food and pharmaceutical products.
2. Packaging cloth/covering film
Application scenarios: Dust covers for furniture and building materials, rain and sun protection covers for outdoor goods, and temporary storage curtains.
Characteristics: Polyester fiber fabrics, after being coated with materials such as PVC and PE, have waterproof, UV resistant, and tear resistant properties. They are also lightweight, easy to fold, and more durable than canvas (canvas is prone to mold, while polyester is moisture resistant).
3、 Functional packaging materials
1. Vacuum packaging film substrate
Application scenarios: Vacuum packaging of meat, seafood and other foods, moisture-proof vacuum packaging of electronic components.
Characteristics: Polyester film (PET film) is used as the outer substrate for vacuum packaging. After being compounded with polyethylene (PE) or aluminum foil, it has high strength (puncture resistance), high temperature resistance (can withstand 121 ℃ cooking), and barrier properties (oxygen and water resistance), ensuring the shelf life of the contents.
2. Anti counterfeiting/packaging decoration
Application scenarios: Inner lining of packaging boxes, satin decoration of gift boxes, carrier of anti-counterfeiting labels.
Features: Satin and plain weave fabrics made of polyester fibers have high glossiness, smooth hand feel, and are not easily faded or deformed, which can enhance the texture of packaging; Meanwhile, polyester film can achieve anti-counterfeiting function through printing, hot stamping and other processes (such as holographic polyester film).
4、 Environmentally friendly packaging applications
With the increasing demand for "recyclable packaging", polyester fibers are gradually replacing some disposable plastic packaging due to their recyclability and degradability (specific modified varieties):
Reusable polyester woven shopping bags (replacing plastic bags);
Buffer mesh cover made of polyester fiber (used for fruit packaging, biodegradable model can decompose in natural environment for 6-12 months).
